Engines: Volvo D6s
Hi, I am due to chart some resonable distances this season and would appreciate some advice on the following:-
1) What would be the optimum cruising RPM to give the best fuel consuption? 2) What would be the average litres consumption P/Hr on the above recommended cruising speed for both D6 engines? 3) Is there a Max recommended running time at above cruising RPM?
Any other advice on distance pilotage would also be of great help, thank you.

Hi Howard
I have a 2006 p36 with D6 310's.
We normally cruise at 2850 RPM getting us 24kts +/- tide. At this speed in a comfortable sea we burn around 80/90 LPH. that would give us 6/7 hours cruise or 170nm range with a really comfortable reserve assuming you have twin 400l tanks like mine.
The D6 310's are brilliant engines but as with all engines running them harder than recommended cruising RPM (85% WOT or 3000 RMP) will shorten their life and reduce your service interval.
With regards to the most efficient fuel consumption the prestige isn't a fully planing hull so it's a fairly linear burn vs speed all the way to WOT. However, if you are not in a rush, 1000 RPM will give you much better range at about 7 knts.
hope this helps
