I recently installed a set of LED lights under the cockpit table cooler on our SO 379. It is wired to the existing LED lights on the top of the cockpit table. The new installation is from parts ordered from Amazon and cost about $10 SD. It is bright enough to light the entire cockpit floor and sides. This should make those winter "in the dark" much easier and add some ambiance to dining alfresco. It took about an hour do complete the job.

Hi Optimystic
Agreed good idea ... I did this on my 379 last season 2x high intensity Blue waterproof LEDs purchased from UK Halford's , stick them on the cockpit table underside and wired them into the existing lights very easy job. In no more than an hour you have a cockpit like a luxury yacht.
At the end of this season I am fitting two small flush fitting red LED lights at bottom of Port side saloon seat, and also changing one of the LED bulbs in the saloon roof light nearest the chart table to a red LED array. Two very easy mods, this is to aid night vision during long passages.

Along these lines, I have changed the spotlight LED bulb in the heads below the cabinet and above the sink for a red one to make it easier to pay a visit in the night. Getting older is a real pain...

I recently replaced the bulbs in both heads ceiling fixtures with a dual color LED bulb. When first turned on its red, but if you switch it off and on within 3 seconds it changes to white. Longer than 3 seconds and it resets to red. Works great in the heads, and I was considering putting one over the galley.

Optimistic,
Ooo man that is such a good idea , love it. Indirect light to get things cosy in the cockpit. Will study my situation and will copy your initiative asap. Why didn't we think of that ourself guys :-) Goes to show the benifit and added value of a board no ?

I bought a pack of sticknclick and stuck one under the cockpit table. It would be better if the light spread out more but, but it cost stuff all and I did not have to do any wiring and no, I did not buy it "as seen on TV"

Hi Anwen Can you please advise which supplier you purchased the spotlight LED bulbs from and do you have a reference part number? thanks. Hi Jim, Sorry for the delay in replying. I bought the bulb from Searolf LEDs. They are a small company, focusing specifically on LED solutions for boats. Their website is a bit chaotic, but you should be able to find what you are looking for. The following link should take you to the right page, and the part number is G409R-12-R www.searolf.com/page13.htmlHope this helps. Regards, Jon

Optimystic,
Great idea. I installed it today and it is very effective. I purchased a couple of 1 metre lengths of self adhesive strip light that was simply stuck under the table edge. I cleaned the surface carefully so it had a good chance to really stick. I added a separate light switch and wired to the same power as the table light.
Many thanks for the good idea. Sailbleu is right...it is the value of the board.
Regards,
Trevor

Any one with a 379 or 409 who has tried to light up the stern boarding platform, I would like advice.

The LED lights on our 379 have the light switch soldered to the wafer with the LED lights. Each light has its own switch. I was wondering if you reused the same switch and soldered it into the new LED light? I received the new LEDs for Christmas, but can figure how else to use them.

i am not sure what you mean but most of the lights in the Jeanneaus are G4 side mount LEDs that simply push into the fitting with 2 pins that are about 4mm apart. Do you not have that style of fitting? A picture of your light fitting would help.

Just a quick update on the excellent suggestion by optimistic. We have used our new cockpit lighting many times now with guests at dinner in the cockpit. We have always struggled to have nice general light in the cockpit and the light under the table is perfect. It reflects off the white fibreglass around and below it and provides a gentle overall light in the cockpit that allows people to see but not be blinded by too harsh a light source. It is a very effective way to light the cockpit for evening meals.

Optimystic Your post really got us inspired. We have a targa that supports a platform for our solar panels on top and we have a strip of LED lights inlaid into the underside illuminating the helm stations. We mostly wanted red or white lights but there is a controller that allows us to select from a series of colour and illumination options including flashing, fading etc... Very 'disco' if desired! Mostly we use a static red, white or blue tone. When this project was completed we had a couple of metres of the self adhesive LED strip left. Now we have used up this surplus under the cockpit table as per your and other contributors example. We are properly pleased and if we ever get into warm enough weather to once again sit out in the evenings, this is what we'll enjoy..... Thanks for sharing the suggestion. SV Zofia

I think you may find our solution to cockpit lighting - illuminating. We installed small LED lights (Suncor) in the frame of our Bimini and they work marvelously, either under way at night or just lounging around the cockpit. These, together with Red/White under table lights have been envied by many.

We have a central switching system within my MFD Pod - see attached photo. Simple wiring, a bit tedious but works great.

Although I didn't take the chrome ring off, you can see the LEDs and the switch which are all one piece. Attachment Deleted
