We are looking for Partners! Tomatillo resides in beautiful Paradise Village resort in Nuevo Vallarta, and beach, golf, and access to five swimming pools is included. This place is safer than our marina at home, and Banderas Bay is just the nicest place to sail in Mexico: Warm, flat water and wind that comes up 10-20 almost every afternoon then dies at sundown. Lots of culture in the town, great restaurants, surfing nearby. We have seen whales and/or dolphins every trip out this year. Oh yeah, the boat:
We bought Tomatillo new and put her into charter with Sunsail in the BVIs as part of their Platinum fleet. After 3 1/2 years, we sailed her thru the canal to Puerto Vallarta. She is loaded: Genset, air conditioning, Spectra watermaker, autopilot, aluminum RIB, outboard w/hoist, life raft, Single Sideband radio, stereo, Garmin 192 chartplotter, folding prop. She has a furling mainsail that works well, a furling genoa, and a furling 85% spinnaker. We also have a hank-on storm sail that fits over the genny.
We just took the bottom down to the gelcoat, put on five coats of primer and three coats of Trinidad. We put in a sacrificial zinc and wired the thru hulls. We just sanded down a lot of her woodwork and laid down five coats of spar varnish inside, Watco teak oil outside, and I put new non-skid on the companionway steps. I'm in the process of upgrading the shower on the swim deck. The bimini has been extended fore and aft, and we have recently added white screen shades which keep the interior nice and cool.
Tomatillo is an easy double hander, my wife and I do it all the time. We have been doing crewed charters with our friends here at J/World Sailing School. Last year they paid half our dockage fees for us.
We like it so much here that we bought a beach flat. We like Tomatillo so much we don't want to let her go, but she needs more use. Our local mechanic can give you the lowdown on her running gear, a Yanmar 56HP.
Total price: $240,000 US. Three partners altogether would be nice, but if we only find one other, thats OK. Its a half day flight from the west coast, then a fifteen minute taxi from PV airport, so its easy to get here. If you are looking for a great way to get away to Mexico, contact me. Right now its 9 p.m. and 70 degrees.
