Where do I find the Hull Number on my 2003 Jeanneau 43DS? I know it should be stamped into the hull, but for the life of me I can't find it.

It should be on the starboard side right aft, immediately forward of the transom and moulded in just below the toe-rail /deck edge

It is most likely on the starboard quarter. On my 2004 SO29.2 it was moulded into the gelcoat of the starboard side hull within several centimetres of the hull/deck/transom junction, on the SO36i it is etched into the gelcoat on the transom but again very close to the junction of the hull/deck/transom. In both cases they are difficult to see and yo have to get close to find them, the numbers would be no more than 1 cm high.
It will be inside somewhere as well but is well hidden. On the 29.2 it was behind the engine near the stuffing box, I have not found it on the 36i yet!
Hope this helps

If it's there I can't find it, I have looked and felt, but can't locate it. Any ideas?

I have a 2005 43DS, my HIN is located where everyone is saying it is, right side aft about 2 inches down from rub rail 2 inches fwd of stern. You can hardly see my numbers! Surveyor used a grease pencil so he could read all the numbers.
I can't figure out how to attach a pic on my not so smart smart phone or I would. Hope this helps

I have one number in the engine room, stbd side, on the bulkhead adjacent to the transmission, down low. The number on the hull is very difficult to find and read. It is on the stbd quarter, just a few inches in from the end of the rail. It took my surveyor and myself about 15 minutes to find it. You have to get the light just right, and a good angle on it. The grease pencil trick should work well.

Mine , 40DS , is in the position Malcolm describes . Starboard & aft. It was my understanding that the 40 and 43 are fairly similar , next to the 3 feet that is. There should also be a plate in the cockpit. Are you the first owner ?

The HIN should also be on the paperwork that should have come with the boat, but as others have said, stbd side at the transom about 5cm below the toe rail.

Hi There,
My HIN 2004 43DS is on the starboard side right aft. However, the stamping is not so deep so if you do not look closely you can easily missed the number.

Did you buy it new or second hand? If 2nd hand the previous 'owner' could have removed the number for reasons you don't want to think about.

When we bought our 42DS we had the broker look high and low in all the different places Jenneau mentioned. Everyone said it should be on the stbd aft corner slightly down from the top of the hull. I looked there myself personally and never saw it. About a year later I was scrubbing the boat and felt a scratch....that turned out to be the number (barely visible with the naked eye). I rubbed a pencil over the area and there was the number although it was VERY difficult to read. Jenneau might want to do a little better job stamping that number in the hull.

I am the owner of a jeanneau sun odyssey 42 DS 2006. I am really struggling to see where this number is stamped. Is anyone able to show me with a picture the zone where I shall search the HIN ? I did try to contact Jeanneau’s help service for used boats without any success here in France. Thanks for your help.

I would expect it to be on the starboard side right aft, immediately forward of the transom and moulded in a few cm's below the toe-rail /deck edge. It is very feint, so look in different light conditions and angles. Once you spot it you may need to go over it with a pencil to be able to make out all the letters and numbers.

If (like me) you can’t see it properly on the stbd aft transom try searching around the engine room. I found a plate in there with HIN easily readable. Only after I knew the number from there was I able to go back and persuade myself the stbd aft digits agreed. Nice one Jeanneau.

I think that there's a longer number printed higher up but could be mistaken. The number shown only has a few digits and is probably the moulding number. The full HIN has some standard bits (e.g. FR for France etc.) with the moulding number included as part of the complete number. The long number is the one quoted in the builder's certificate from Jeanneau (e.g. format similar to this SUN ODYSSEY 42DS FR-SBP AAnnnAnnn). There's a plate under the engine controls on starboard side but I'm pretty certain it only contains model number, CE number and limits to persons and luggage.

The other technique (if you think you’ve found the right area and can see the hint of some digits in the right lighting) then enjoy a quick trip down memory lane by grabbing a paper & pencil and do an etching over the area like you might have etched coins and suchlike as a child. It works! Not so well in the rain though.
