Has anyone setup webbing jackstay's on a SO40, and would they share the length of the webbing? I plan to run from the bow cleats to stern cleats on each side, and want to order in time to take out to the boat this summer. As the boat is some distance away, it's not as easy as popping down and running a tape along the deck.
Many thanks in advance.

My marina is also a Jeanneau broker, so I see lots of new Jeanneaus. I recall that some have pad eyes in the deck for this purpose. If your boat has them, you'll probably not need to use the stern cleats, so the length would be shorter.

No such luck Don. Boat is virgin as far as jack stay mounting points go (and no tether attachment points either).
Looks like I shall now be able to get a quick trip to the boat in a couple of weeks, so won't sweat it for the moment.
Cheers, PT

I have found that it's possible to get approximate measurements from the deck layout in the PDF manual for my boat. Just copy the screen and paste it into a graphics program (I use Gimp, which is free) and use the measurement tool to compare what you want to measure with some known distance, such as the overall length. Saves a trip to the boat.
The other thing to consider is how you're going to attach the jack lines. I prefer them quite tight, so a loop on one end is fine, but the other end needs to remain adjustable. You can use a simple cleat hitch, in which case you don't want a loop at the other end. I've read in Practical Sailor of a someone who used a number of turns of small diameter high tech line at one end between a cleat and a loop in the end of the webbing. This let him get the tension quite high. Two loops in the webbing would work, but wouldn't be necessary.

I found using the cleats is a nuisance, as the cleats arenĀ“t oversized as it is. So I installed brackets on the deck, dedicated to the jack stay straps. These jack stays are 10.5 metres, but they were made to size.
It also depends which SO40 you have, as the 2000+ ones, have the rear cleats further forward.

In an offshore double-handed race (actually, float, given the lack of wind) last summer, Boatless Mike and I attached the Wichard jackline front to a forward cleat and the tails to the spinnaker turning block pad eyes aft, as the tails weren't long enough to reach the aft cleats. On my former SO34.2, we had a folding pad eye midway between the mast and the forestay that was ideal for the jacklines' forward attachment point. I am likely to duplicate that on our SO40 when I dig out from all the other ongoing improvement projects.

Many thanks to all and apologies for the delay in responding. I shall look into the adjustable ones to start with and then work on getting some proper mounting points installed as well.
Cheers, PT
