I have a 36i (2007). It has a fuel filter which is marked "Wix 33166" (image here). I've never changed the filter and before I start spilling diesel I'd like to make sure I have the right spare on hand. The Wix 33166 on Amazon looks different. It looks shorter and doesn't have a metal cage on it. Perhaps I'm missing something. Is what I'm seeing on the boat really a housing into which the filter fits? While we're on the subject, the manual for my engine (Yanmar 3ym30) says that it should not be necessary to bleed the fuel lines after the secondary fuel filter. Should I believe it? Thx David

The filter that you replace is only the middle bit with wix on it. The lower part is reused and has the water drain under it. Replaced one on a 33i with a 3ym20 and it bled itself fine.
The filters are used on cars I believe they are Ford. I bought a load for 96p each from a motor factors but can't find the part number.

Another thing worth noting is that you can get glass bowls for these filter units BUT they are not now fitted by Jeanneau and other builders I think due to the safety issue of if you have a fire the glass will break adding fuel etc. However the glass bowl does allow you to easily visually check if there is any water etc.
I know there is another thread on Racor filters which are the Rolls Royce option and some fit two in parallel so that you can change filters without having to stop engine etc
