d**n! While moving south towards Florida and waitiing for a bridge opening, I began backing up to gain clearance to another boat ( of the 20+) waiting for the opening. Going rearward about a knot (maybe slightly more), we hit something. Bad sound. Crunching sound and we stopped. The trailing edge of the rudder took the brunt. Shaft is bent I'm sure and the rudder is as well. Having the boat hauled two days from now.

Really bad luck, s**t happens, at least it sounds like you are still afloat, if there is no water ingress I am sure the rudder tube will be fine, Jeanneau also keep rudders for models going back quite a while so, hopefully you will not have too much difficulty getting a new one supplied - trust the Insurance Company is helpful
On another point, could I repost your photos about your bow thruster install on the Hints & Tips section? it would be of interest to a wider audience and I always need more material for each monthly update

I got a replacement rudder from Jeanneau in 4 weeks or so; it might be worthwhile to see if your current rudder can be repaired. Even though I dealt with Jeanneau USA the rudder had to be shipped from France. I had people in the local boatyard state that if they could take a mould of the original they could build one for about half the price of an OEM rudder - but since my rudder drifted off towards distant shores that option wasn't available to me.

Malcolm: You are more welcome to post the info wherever you think it will be of most benefit to the group. I would add that I am very happy with the performance of the Vetus thruster.
