I have a Merry Fisher 605 motor boat with a Nanni 85 turbo engine I have noticed recently that a small amount water has started to appear in my bilge. After inspection I have noticed a small leak from my water pump. The only thing I have done this year is change my Impellor.

Were you careful not to damage the gasket when replacing the cover?

Thank you for your reply the leak is not from the heat exchanger but the water pump which is held on by four bolts. I was hoping that someone who had had this problem could advise me what to look out for when removing this. Regards John

Depending on type of pump there will either be a paper gasket or hopefully an O ring. It is best practice to replace with a new gasket or O ring every time you remove the cover . Also look out for any corrosion or salt build up on the flange or inside of the cover plate that will stop the plate seating perfectly If the problem persists you might look at replacing the OEM with a speedseal www.speedseal.com/speedseal.html These are really good , especially if you currently have a paper gasket.

water leakage is very difficult to detect and rectify . You can go for leak repair services . They can do it properly without any damage. The leakage detection services are also less expensive. If we try to solve rectify it it takes a considerable amount of time and sometimes leads to failure

I have a Sun Odyssey 35 year 2003 with a volvo 30hp inboard. Noticed a similar problem and tried to remove the pump. Ouch 3 of the bolts could not be removed and now I have a bracket and an oil leak .Boat has to come out of the water and probably an engine removal to rectify the problem.
