I'm wondering what others have done with regard to stowing spinnaker or whisker poles vertically on the front of the mast. My SO40 has the standard Z-Spars mast with 25mm track.
I've got a Forespar LC12-22 whisker pole to stow. Forespar strongly discourages attaching the pole to the mast using anything other than its hardware system, but (1) that requires a wider track and (2) the existing track can be removed only by de-stepping the mast, not the easiest thing to do DIY. Forespar's warning is that forces can be imparted to the pole that will break the end fittings, if it is attached to a conventional ring.
Has anyone stowed a Forespar pole on the mast using the standard Z-Spars components? If so, have there been any issues with stressed end fittings? On our former boat, SO34.2, we used a conventional mast-front-mounted ring in deploying our (smaller) Forespar whisker pole and never had any concerns. We stored the pole on the lifeline stanchions.
I do have the Forespare track, car, and end chock, but de-stepping the mast at reasonable cost and installing the wider track is not feasible until the end of the 2014 season. Meanwhile, I'm stowing the pole on the lifeline stanchions, as was done on our SO34.2.
