Good morning,
Just bought a two cabin, 2002 SO 37 and had a couple of questions if the group would not mind :
1) Is it 'normal to have to remove the water pump to change the impeller? It only took a couple of minutes but I didn't know if others had another way (be great if the impeller cover faced forwards, but it doesn't)
2) I sheared the head on one of the impeller cover screws. They seem like soft brass to me so I can drill that one out and then retap the thread to clean it up. Does anyone have a recommendation for better screws other than :
- speedseal
- coating the threads with Lanacoat or never seize
both of which I am contemplating
3) There is a large storage compartment in the shower area - anyone know what it was designed for?
4) Anyone have an owners manual in either pdf form or paper copy (be happy to pay for replication and postage costs)
5) I see access to the port side of the engine is limited - not sure I can change the oil filter without removing the alternator first (again an OK activity and likely <5 minutes), but has anyone put a hatch in the bulkhead to access from the head ?
6) My instrumentation is dated - at the helm I have an ST60 Wind, an ST60 Multi and an ST60 TriData. I would like to get a chartplotter, radar and autopilot in there. Can you still get replacement panel from Goiot ? Or should I plan on having this one reskinned to fill in all the holes if I have to change out my units? I could probably put a Raymarine autopilot control unit where the Multi or Tri Data is and use that space for an autopilot control, but then I am somewhat space restricted as to what chartplotter I can get in the remaining space. Ideas anyone?
7) I was planning on doing a little battery rewiring and putting the engine starting battery in the space behind the engine and squeezing a bigger house bank into the space underneath the bunk where the two current batteries are - has anyone done this already and worked out the maximum amount of battery that can be squeezed into that space ?
8) Has anyone successfully added a dodger and/or bimini to the boat ? Care to share details ?
9) Refrigeration - is the OEM unit just a fridge or a freezer too ? How efficient is it ? Anything notable I should be cognizant of?
Thanks in advance
