I would like to move the control line for the genoa control line so that it leads to a clam cleat on the side of the cabin. Because of the cabin liner, there is no option to use nuts and bolts.
Will using screws be sufficent for mounting both the clam cleats and a lead block? I assume that it should be ok since the screws will only need to support a sideward force.
Are there any special screws that should be used?

Are you sure the cabin liner would get in the way? In my SO35, the head liner is quite easy to remove. As long as the bolts didn't protrude too far, I would think you would never notice once the liner is replaced.
Frankly, I wouldn't use screws that were just threaded into the fiberglass. I would want a real backing plate, nuts, and lock washers.

One option maybe to cut a larger hole in the liner to gain access to the outer skin, then after bolting the cleat on traditionally fill the liner hole with a suitable blanking plug eg www.estcoenterprises.com/parts/plastic-screw-caps.htmlOK not perfect but depending on where in the liner maybe not that noticeable ? Thanks... I think for now I will skip the idea and leave the control line cleats where they are. Where the cleats would be mounted are outside the aft cabins, so the screw caps Malcom mentioned would probably work ok and not stick out too much. At least i now know what not to do Thanks again

The cam cleats for the jib car control line are at the aft end of the tracks on our SO40 (Garhauer system). In a year with these fitted, I've had no problems. Though a location closer to the cockpit would be more convenient, I wonder if that would encourage fouling in the jib sheet?
