The Maxpower Bowthruster CT100 on our 45 DS just stopped working. We suspect the batteries which are Optima RedTop. The surprise is they are only 3 1/2 years old, although well used. Has anyone had a similar experience? Or can suggest how to test these type of batteries.

Hello kevinmobrien,
I suggest you obtain a multimeter, select DC volts, connect it up to the battery terminals and read the voltage. It should be about 12 or 13 volts. Now try to use the bow thruster. If the voltage does not change much, the battery is probably ok and you should look elsewhere. If it drops to below say 10volts, it is either not being charged or it is dead.
I hope this helps,
Regards,
Trevor

Hi,
I've mentioned this previously in another post when I had problems with my bow thruster. It seemed to lack Ooomph and then I noticed that the battery voltage was low despite other batteries being fine. I finally traced to problem to poor connection on the RedTop battery in the bows.
I had removed the quick release (plastic wing-nut) terminals for cleaning and applied some Vaseline each year as a matter of course. However, I had not thought to remove the clamps on the battery post and that's where the problem lay. Jeanneau (or dealer) had put dirty clamps onto dirty battery posts and there had been a lot of arcing inside the clamps.
It might be worth removing the clamps to have a look. Mine very filthy and pitted on the inside but the posts were fine after I cleaned them up. I bought a new pair of clamps for the posts and the bow thruster worked just like new again.
PS Only just discovered this year that I should have been removing the props. and applying silicone grease to the shaft. I'd missed it in the manual first time around. So that's on the pre-launch list now (remove props., clean shaft & seal, silicone grease on shaft & area around seal).
