Does anyone know what these are used for? I have tried to figure out why they are installed. Looks like the convert 12volt to 24volt, but I can't find any equipment in the boat that uses 24volt. Does Jeanneau ship these as standard? My eletronics are all Raymarine. -Xlnt

Strange indeed - as those devices aren't cheap. Do you have the schematics, those are pretty well documented on Jeanneau boats.

Hello Xint,
Certainly they are 12 to 24 volt converters but are they actually installed? The reason I ask is those units have connectors on the end and the left hand side one seems to be sitting flat on the timber base allowing no space for the connectors or wiring. Also they don"t seem to be parallel and one is higher than the other. If they are installed it seems like an interesting installation job.
If they are installed and you trace the output wiring you will see what they are powering.
I would be really surprised if these were fitted by Jeanneau.
Regards,
Trevor

They are installed, they are connected to a flip fuse on the bowthruster main switch panel. The wires come out underneath you ca see them on the right side of them in the picture. There are red lights at the bottom as well. All the wires just go into the wire tubes and are impossible to trace unless take everything apart. I am starting to think that they might feed a long distance SSB radio that are installed but not tested, has been disconnected since I got the boat ( it might use alot of power, the previouse owner had a lot of problems with the 12v)

I have Deja vu here as I'm certain I've seen a very similar picture with similar query somewhere else many months ago.
I have a 42DS and don't have these fitted. It looks as if they are on the outside of the engine start battery box. I fitted relay her when I upgraded the charging system. So I know nothing else is fitted there. It also looks as if you have an extra battery next to the shorepower charger. I don't have that either, just start battery to starboard (as mentioned) and domestic bank on port side.
I'd say that it must be for some pretty non-standard extra such as SSB

Not an SSB - they don't come in 24V and I had to put in a 24V - 12V DC converter in order to install my SSB onto the bigger house bank.

I have one of those SSB radios with a large box/Computer underneath the bench. Can the computer be 24v? Furuno something.

Interesting that you can't get 24V SSB, I thought that Icom made some 24V kit (Icom Marine SSB IC-M801E + AT141).
I doubt it would be the computer at 24V and also the outputs are too large. I believe that this model can output 10A at 24V and there are 2 of them. 20A out at 24V and >40A draw on 12V side.
Pretty meaty power supply either 2 x 240W items or one ar 480W. I can't think of anything obvious that needs almost half a kilowatt and 24V. Well, I can think of things but nothing that makes sense for a boat where 12V or 240VAC via inverter wouldn't make more sense.
Puzzling. At least you can ignore VHF radios, plotters etc. as all have low power requirements.
So, what do you have that you'd only use when engine is running or for very short periods without engine?
Or possibly something with a high startup current that drops back in use. e.g. 24v Eberspacher. That might fit the bill but Jeanneau fit 12V models. I suppose someone might have had a cheap 24V model and a converter would allow it to be used. Bit of a longshot though.

Yepp. I was at the boat today and those boxes are for the Furuno SSB radio. Has puzzeld me all winter. Thanks guys for suggestions. My SSB uses 24v and died when I turned of the 24v inverters.

mistroma - I went for the M802 model (not approved for German/UK marine use) and that is only available in 12V
