Currently assessing options. Tunnel, retractable, external and water-jet. The Ex-turn may have to be ruled out as we are in the PNW and log contact is a given. Tunnel mounted and retractables are both reasonably well known quantities. The Holland Marine jet-thruster (now available in the US through US Marine) is beginning to look like a good alternative for various reasons - simplicity, buoyancy, weight distribution, etc. See Anyone fitted the jet-thrust system? Or considered it as an option? Any info much appreciated. thanks Norna J

No direct knowledge I am afraid, but I remember the original WillDo system being launched at METS about 5 years ago - I don't know why but that was not a success, the team were ex-Vetus so should have been good - I guess the new company may be a phoenix of that ? I had a look at their website - couldn't see much about the power consumption c/w traditional but they do stress using high quality batteries near to the pump - obviously will take a lot of juice.
I don't like the idea of the Exturn, it must give quite a bit of drag when sailing and how long will the waterseals last?

Oh and I should have said we have the standard factory fit (Max-power from memory) in our 39i and it has been very good - I think the battery is now getting dodgy after 5 years, but it has helped me out of and into some tight places many times. Well worth fitting.

Thanks, Malcolm I think it may well be a re-incarnation. But I cannot find any adverse comments in terms of the product itself. Agreed that the power required vs thrust provided is far from clear, which makes comparisons difficult. That will be the next question. Norna J
