I'm anchored in Grand Case, St. Martin and was listening to the local Rock 92 radio station reporting on the last day of the races (yesterday), with good winds for all the boat when I went topsides and realized that the mark was just off Creole Rock; so I dinghied over with my camera in the hopes of getting a good shot or two. I took too many pictures and ended up making a web page with some of them; for those interested in looking at some of the racing boats turning at the mark, please take a gander at the page by clicking on the image below

Well, if you took too many pictures, it was because there were too many boats! But you certainly did the right thing with them, posting the photos where the racers might eventually get a chance to see them.
It seem like you were so close as to be right on the finish line. You must have a really long telephoto lens and a good anti-shake system in your camera to be able to take pictures like that from your dinghy.
Nice job!

I was very close to the mark, not more than 100 feet and I just have the normal 18-200 lens and a lot of the shots were blurred since I was trying to keep still while the little dinghy was bouncing around. Did you see the camera the media photographer was holding? That is over 100K$ and the lenses are gyroscopically stabilized and I'm sure he got some great shots, but his arms and shoulders are holding a LOT of weight.

Unfortunately I didn't see them race this time, their course was in a different direction.

Zanshin , did you meet the Maeva ? A 47,3 Benetteau from Belgium ? My friend with whom I've spent several months last summer ( we split up at the end of August at Gibraltar , me on my way up again and he towards the Canaries) . I read on his blog that he was at the regatta also.
Regards

Sailbleu - I didn't meet or see Maeva. Most of the boats go inside the lagoon and to a dock, I like to anchor and there is nowhere inside the lagoon to anchor for me due to my deep draft, the one time I did so my keel and rudder were partially in the muck and I had to anchor almost in the deepwater channel. I'm on the French side in an anchorage called Grand Case which is quite nice not but not central. There is a 4 meter swell from the north coming in a couple of days, so I will be leaving St. Martin today and heading towards St. Barths and then to Antigua. I just realized that the Antigua Race Week is going to be sometime soon as well. Another set of parties... (just check 27 April - 3 May)
