We're currently spending a few seasons cruising in the Med and spent the summer in the Balaerics. To avoid schengen visa issues (We're Australian) and any possible dramas with matriculation tax which can be applicable if a boat spends more than 180 days within Spain in one year we decided to winter in Gibraltar. Gibraltar has two marinas, Ocean Village and Queensway Quay Marina which are priced very similarly. As we'd previously been in Queensway when crewing we chose it for our four month hiatus. We're incredibly glad we did. In January a westerly with gusts of fifty knots blew in from the Atlantic and while we were pretty comfortable in Queensway the situation at Ocean Village was very ugly with a massive swell right through the marina and plenty of damaged boats. We've posted some short videos on our blog and suggest if anyone is thinking of a Gibraltar stopover they have a look. dreamtimesail.blogspot.com/2013/01/winter-has-arrived-in-gibraltar.htmlCheers

Hi Rockstar, There's another strong westerly blowing here in Gib today so we're very glad we picked Queensway. Weather permitting we're leaving in a couple of weeks and making our way slowly up towards Barcelona. We plan to be there mid-late April. Any suggestions where we should take the boat there?

Hi Alcheringa, We are just south of Barcelona about 150kl. nice marina Rest, pool etc. its on the south side of the Ebro Delta called San Charles. The Marina have a good web site scmchat.com with lots of info about marinas up and down the coast. The marina is well worth a visit. Regards "Rockstar"

Thanks for the info Rockstar. We'll look it up on the net. By the way, we're certain we shared an anchorage with you in the Balaerics last summer. We remember seeing an Irish registered 'Rockstar' and don't imagine there would be too many the same. We think it may have been San Telmo or Cala Portals. Cheers www.dreamtimesail.blogspot.com/

Hi Alcheringa, We were in Cala Portals but did not over night nice anchorage once the wind is offshore. We were also in San Telmo for about four days, so it was there you saw us. Your right we are the only Irish Registered boat named "Rockstar", but not with any Rockstars on board I hope our paths might cross over the Summer months. Our first long cruise will be up the coast of Spain and South of France May/ June, 2nd cruise menorca in September. Fair Winds Francis "Rockstar"

Hi Rockstar, we hope to be in Barcelona by mid to late April so there's every chance our tracks could cross again. We'll be keeping an eye out for you. Cheers www.dreamtimesail.blogspot.com/
