After a year and a half I published a 38 minute video on youtube of our trip to the English east coast in June, 2011. I regret youtube made a sorry selection of thumbnail images - none of the three I had to choose from is any use... At the time the boat was fairly new to us and we had some teething troubles. The autopilot proved to be dud shortly afterwards, which has been the subject of a topic last year. The mainsail was difficult to manage, which I recified last winter by fitting a mainsheet traveller. I missed having a foresail boom which would have steadied the boat before the wind. And the wind was terrific - we haven't sailed in much less than a 5 out at sea. The video will speak for itself. Despite the troubles, the rain, the cold and the wind it has been a wonderful trip - one forgets the problems and remembers the fun. The video is in SD quality as I still had a very simple camera at the time. Enjoy yourselves!

Well done Ted
The shots of the Thames barges are great and compensate for all the mud on the East Coast and terrible weather. Brought back many memories (I started sailing there 45 years ago...)

Thanks, all - actually I like mud flats and the east coast is rather more unspoilt than our north. The Thames barges were an interesting change from the traditional Dutch flat bottom vessels.
Bradwell is a good spot to go. There is an excellent pub near the harbour and we had a nice walk to St Peter on the Wall - the oldest church in England. I wish we'd had more time out there. It may not be next year but I hope to return there some day.

Lovely video Ted. If you remember I was almost following you about on the England bit. we were in the places you went to but a day or few apart. When it was raining really hard in your Bradwell pics we were ploughing across from the Medway with not a lot of visibility. Hope for better weather this year and may get across the North Sea. In my latest Yachting Monthly the owner of Blankenberg and Nieuwport marinas was saying it would be ok to go there with red diesel as long as you have a receipt so I hope he's right.[ see my earlier thread on red diesel to which you provided several very useful inputs.] But what about the rest of Belgium? Still a problem?
Anyway great video really enjoyed watching it. Cheers Ron

Thanks, Ron - I remember we were in touch about that trip some time ago.
The red diesel issue as far as I know is still the same. I wonder about the statements from marina owners. I had much the same reaction in Ostend, at the Royal Yacht Club just around the corner when you enter harbour. The problem is that the authorities take a formal and inflexible stand if they catch you. The chance of checks isn't very big though, which is what I was told. I would in any case keep a fuel and engine hours log from the moment you start the trip, and keep the receipts in it.

That red diesel issue just won't go away. Looks like Holland or France then. Just jetting off today for 2 weeks sailing in the BVI's in the Caribbean. Hope to see some sun and warmth on a Jeanneau 379. Cheers Ron

Lateron - where will you be? I'm in the BVI right now and will anchor next to Prickly Pear Island by Saba Rock in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda for a couple of days; I managed to hurt my back and can't move around and hope that things will fix themselves with a bit of rest aboard.

Hi Zanshin....just back from BVI's and had a great time missed your message of feb 7th cos had left UK . Saw your boat in Cane Garden Bay feb 18th as we left. Took a photo as we left early morn, couldn't see you on deck and didn't see you the night before as we were well into the bay and we had had a lively night at Elms BBQ on the beach. Will try to send them. Ron. ........ How lucky you are to sail in the BVI's !!! The 379 was great to sail.
