Hello all this is my first post, and I am new to the Jeanneau world.
I am in the middle of purchasing a sun odyssey 44. But there is not allot of info on the web on this boat. The Sun Magic 44 on the other hard shows up everywhere. What is the difference? The boat is a 1991.
And any owners have comments on the boats and sailing performance? Thanks d

Hi Dirk
welcome to the forum
As I understand it the SO44 and SM44 are different in name only. It was around 1990/91 that Jeanneau started to put some logic into the naming of models and the original Sun Magic (first built 1988) was rebranded as the SO44 around 1990. There were about 400 built in total - about 300 as the SM44 and maybe less than 100 as SO44 (last ones 1993)
Many have done extensive cruising and subject to usual surveyor checks (eg Osmosis, mast compression post) if they have been maintained should be good for many more years - but note the recent thread about teak decks from this era
Do let the forum know how you get on

I just put another counter offer in so its quite close.. I wish the Jeanneau logic naming made more sense as its quite a mess. The one i am looking at is a 91, but its a Odyssey, with the big shower forward on the Port side. Ok thanks so much D

So the boat is bought and is now sitting at its new marina. I am so happy that it sailed very well. We had 18-20 kts of wind across the straits of georgia double reefed man and small genny rolled out and were averaging 7kts. We were under-canvased by a long shot but as the boat was new to me and environment canada had doom and gloom warnings of 50kts we went conservative.
Will post pics soon D

Dirk,
That sail must have been a week or two or three ago. Not sure the salish sea has had wind 2 or 3 knots for a week or so. At least not down here in Washington. Been foggy with air stagnation alerts etc. I've heard similar up in BC. Also check out Frasier yachts or Marine Servicenter, they have a joint US/Canada rendezvous the third weekend in June at Pender Harbor.

Ok so I need to remove the max prop and have it rebuilt... some times misses reverse. Any one in the pnw have a spare 35mm prop that I can borrow/rent? Thanks D

Any one in the pnw have a spare 35mm prop that I can borrow/rent? Thanks D Sorry to complicate matters but you also need to ensure that the power /hp and the gearbox ratio are the same (or at least very close) on the donor and receipient engines or the prop won't work

Yep, I know the sizing problems. But am looking for an in and out of the marina prop for the time the MAX is in rebuild. With a 35mm shaft it narrows down the Jeanneaus that will have a spare kicking around. But thanks for the heads up. D

Not positive, but you could probably have the prop removed while in the water, send down to PYI inc in Lynnwood Wa fed ex, they can rebuild and send back in a few days later. I know where they are at, right near Paine Field in SOUTH Everett, but a lynwood adress..
