When i bought my boat she still had french power sockets with travel adapters in use in each one. When i saw an article in this forum about someone replacing their sockets I searched around and now have also replaced mine. I am so glad I did as I discovered that one was badly burned inside where the current had been arcing. I have today also replaced all the bulbs on board with LED types obtained from boatlamps.co.uk at a total cost of £79. The only one I could not change is the one above the galley which is a figure of eight type fluorescent light fitting. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement or are these low current usage anyway? I put on every single light for two hours with negligible change in the voltmeter, I am looking forward to trying them out at a mooring this weekend.

It might have been a post I did about changing the sockets from Euro to UK. Berker are the manufacturer, and I bought my replacements from East Coast Caravans.
I would be inclined to leave the fluorescent in place, as these are generally pretty efficient lamps. The only question in my mind is whether this is original fit - on my SO32, all of the on-board lamps were halogens.

Same in my case - I only have halogen spots over the galley. These can be replaced with LED substitutes, but I don't often use the overhead lights. I fitted LED lamps in the small bulkhead lights up forward, and fitted flexible bright LED chart reading lamps to improve the light for reading when sitting at the table.

Deep joy, do you have details of the specific sockets you used? I think Berker have a wide range. I too am concerned about the quality of electrics.

Hi Oasis, I had to search back to 2007 to find my original post! The company which supplied my sockets was East Coast Leisure, but looking on their web site, they no longer seem to stock these. You could give them a call to confirm whether this is the case. If you draw a blank with them, I would try the following company www.abcomponents.co.uk/berker_sockets_switches.html who do the Berker Integro flush mount range. These are not the same as the original fit to the Jeanneau, but pretty close. You would need to buy the sockets and the Integro classic frame with hinged cover, part Code:09-1828-XX. I think this would give you the nice sleek look which the original fit has. From looking on the Berker web site, it would appear that the type fitted to our boats has been discontinued. Below is a photo of one of the Euro sockets I replaced. You can see that it comes in 3 parts - the socket itself, the frame and the hinged cover which clips on to the face of the socket. I couldn't find anything like this on the Berker site, so have to assume it has been discontinued. i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb38/Jon_Mead/Sailing/BerkerSocket.jpg

It was ABC components that I bought the new sockets from. I did not bother with the cover just bought the front plate with UK socket and the trim that clips in. The diameter of the new sockets matched the existing holes perfectly. You may have to cut a cable tie though to allow you to pull through sufficient cable to make the connections. I think it was about £55 or so for all the new bits. Rodger
