Having a problem with rounding up. I am being told to reduce some of the pressure that we rake the mast slightly more forward. The backstay turnbuckles have a lot of thread to let out. The problem is there is no turnbuckle on the headstay under the furling drum to adjust. Can Jeanneau tell me the exact length that would be advisable so that I can compare the length

If you have something like in the pic below, you can adjust the rake by moving the forstay down the pin holes some. If not then the only real option is to replace, or cut an inch or two off the current forestay. OR, cut, and add an adjustable turn buckle to the forestay if that is possible, such that you can put the furling drum around it. I will say, that pulling the mast forward using the forestay an inch or so does make a difference, I pulled my forstay to the lowest hole in the pic, that help quite a bit with too much weather helm. On our SO45 we lowered the boom and changed the sails. The main is fully battened with quite a bit of roach. The headsail is 110% as opposed to nearly 150% . I shortened the forestay by cutting off 1.5" from the thread that screws into the end fitting. I fitted a toggle onto each back stay as they would not reach without. Sail balance is excellent and the boat sails itself quite happily in anything up to 12 kts. Reefing to balance the helm does not affect speed. We have a Hydrovane fitted and that works very well indeed. Hope that helps. Admiral
