Anyone tell me how to remove the Quantum main sail stowage bag on an SO39i? Does it come off aft from the end of the boom or fwd from the goose neck? It sure ain't obvious. NornaJ

it comes off at the mast end, it's attached to the boom with a bolt rope/track
1. take photos with your phone/camera if you think you might forget how it goes back together.
2. place ties around your main to keep it together (if leaving on boom) 3. undo lazy jacks and tie off to mast(onto the spinnaker pole ring) 4. pull the poles out of the bag by undoing a velcro pocket (at the mast end I think) - the poles separate into about 3 pieces each side
5. unshackle the mainsails clew from the outhaul car + untie any ties holding the bag to the boom, or stopping it moving forward.
6. undo the reefing lines where they tie around the boom if necessary 7. pull one side of the bag under the mains foot so that they're both on the same side. 8. slide the bag forward and out of the boom track.
This is how I've done it on a 36i and a 39i. Cheers

While you have the cover off, inspect the zipper backing for UV damage, particularly at the aft end where the backing is not covered. Also inspect the zipper stitching for UV damage. These things have given me a lot of trouble in the past. I've had to reinforce the stitching and eventually replace the entire zipper. It's pretty easy with the cover off.

Thanks, Don Good advice. Have re-sewn some of the zipper stitching (in situ), poor original stitching rather than UV damage. Also, a couple of teeth have broken off towards the after end of the zipper. However, it remains possible (with care) to use the zipper, so its replacement can be deferred for the time being. NornaJ
