Upgraded to this boat at this spring.
I know it is an odd subject but I'm not sure if I'm pumping out correctly.
The setup is like this, head goes to t-value, one way it dumps off the boat, the other send it to the holding tank. I never switch this value (always goes to the tank). However, there is another hose that runs off the tank and then through the hull of the boat. (not the one that comes through the deck for pumping out.)
Should this other hose's valve be open or closed when pumping out?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you, David

That must be your vent. It needs to be open when pumping out so air can get into the tank, preventing the vacuum from crushing it.

How big is the hose you're talking about and where does it connect to the tank. If ita about 1" at the top then its a vent line. If its a 2" at the bottom and going to a ball-valve it's the waste line and should be kept closed unless you are intending to discharge the holding tank into the ocean (where permitted). This setup is used to allow accumulating waste in marinas and areas where discharge is not permitted then dump while under sail. The Ball valve connected to the wye valve (T) allows for direct discharge and may be illegal in your area. Check with authorities as you may need to lock it shut and epoxy the key-hole to comply with regulations depending on where you take the boat. Some localities in the US may require removal of the wye valve and associated thru-hull if the boat is permanantly located in a no discharge area with exceptions for transient boats. forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/printthread.php?t=10979

Thanks guys. I'm going to investigate more when I get the boat this weekend. I believe it is a 2 inch hose and it definitely is under the waterline at the thru hull.
Thanks again,
David
