I am planning to add air conditioning to my SO 45.2. I would like to hear from other members that have AC on their 45.2. Where is the AC unit? What size (BTUs), and is it enough? Where do the ducts lead? Where are the through hulls located? If you have a generator, what kind and what size, and where is it located? Thanks, Steve

Steve,
I'm sorry you didn't get any replies. I hope you figured out the answer on your own. This year I'm in the same boat as you. I also have a 2000 Jeanneau SO 45.2 on which I would like to install A/C/heat and a different frigeration system.
I got an estimate at the Spring Boat show in Annapolis that called for two units, a 16000 BTU unit to cool/heat the salon and master cabin, and an 8000 BTU unit to cool/heat the aft cabins. The 16000 unit is to go in the forward compartment of the settee and the 8000 unit is planned to go in the starboard cockpit lazarette.
I don't have a generator, but am having it wired so that a portable Honda generator can run it, if necessary.
Given the late answer, I'm not sure this was timely enough to be of any help.
BTW, if you already had your system installed, can you give me a recommendation on an A/C installer, if you happen to be in the Maryland area?
Thanks greatly,
John

Hi. We have air conditioning in our SO 45.2. Pretty much as your quote describes it. Two units, the 16K unit cools main salon and master cabin, and smaller unit for the two aft cabins located under the main floor hatch in the cockpit. Our generator is in the starboard cockpit locker so that put the unit there. Put the main thermostat controls at the nav station. This is good and bad, as it is nice to be able to control both units centrally and when leaving the boat to set them to dehumidify cycle. Temp changes in the middle of the night are the bad, but once we figured out a comfortable temp all was good. Upgraded the electricity to handle the load, but then the newer units are much more energy efficient. Our 4KW panda generator runs both units if we are sensitive to start up loads. Being in the Great Lakes, the reverse cycle heat is good too. We love the climate control when we are in the marina.

Thanks for the responses. I have not yet installed AC. I spent the boat fund last year on new sails. I am continuing to research AC. I have pretty much determined that 2 units would be best, thanks for confirming that. With the aft unit in the cockpit floor locker, is there still room to stow a valise style life raft? Steve
