Hi,
We have a 2001 Sun Odyssey 37 with two water tanks fore and aft. Until very recently when the fore tank (tank 1) was empty it would automatically switch over to take the water from the smaller aft tank (tank 2). Now however when tank 1 is empty, the pump continues to pump from the empty tank and doesn't cross over to tank 2. I can only use the water from tank 2 if I isolate tank 1.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this problem would be gratefully received.
Cheers, Paul

I've always had to switch the valves to get water from the second tank. It may be that you were really drawing from both tanks, and something has affected your trim so it doesn't act the same any more.
An automatic switch when a tank is empty sounds like a complicated and expensive device, one that Jeanneau probably wouldn't include as a standard feature.

Hi,
Thank you for that, We have added a few bits of heavy kit on the stern so yes this would have affected the trim.

We also have a 2001 SO 37 and have valves just in front of the chart table and outboard and switch those when we want to go from the aft tank to the forward one or vice versa. I take it you don't have the same arrangement.

I think it has something to do with the pressure tank. On my last boat there was no pressure tank and I always left both tank valves open at the manifold. It would pump water from both tanks, usually from tank one until empty, and then start picking up water from tank two. Now I have a SO 42DS and have to switch tanks. My manifold is very small and the "valves/knobs" are the size of a quarter. I must remove a dinette cushion and lay down to reach the valves. A real pain, especially in the middle of the night. I would like to hear if anyone have redesigned this part of the fresh water system.

When you say pressure tank, is that what we call in the UK an expansion vessel? the one next door to the main water pump? roughly the same size and shape? If so when was the last time it was primed with air?

I just took delivery on the boat in April and was told that the pressure/expansion tank (it is red and sets next to the pump) had been primed with air. There is a air valve on top of the tank but I can't find anything that tells me what the pressure should be.
