On our SO39i the Raymarine C90W is mounted below the cockpit table. It is inconvenient and, frankly, we find it unsafe. The options appear to be: + move it to the top/rear of cockpit table + move it to the starboard helm + add a slave unit at the starboard helm Have seen option 1 on a couple of SO42DS. Looked good and the one owner I talked to was pleased with the result. Additional experience and suggestions much appreciated. Norna J

We recently moved our E-80 to just over the wheel. Attached is a photo. We had a new rail/guard fabricated to house a Navpod, then rerouted the cables. We added AIS and a NMEA 0183 connection to our PC and Ipad as well. It works great, and you can actually make use of it without sitting on the deck! If you want more info, feel free to reach out.

The new 409 and 439 have the option of rotatable pods from Scanstrut www.scanstrut.com/products/product-page.php?range_id=10033&type=ScanpodsI quite like these as it means you can tilt the plotter to either helm, but I think the downside of mounting on the top of the cockpit table is security when you leave the boat and perhaps more vulnerable than the under table position that is standard on the 39i. Over the years I have got quite use to the low position and see it fine from either helm and providing it is not raining I sit on the floor to programme in waypoints etc. I also like the fact that the table cover protects the plotter from prying eyes and the elements when I am away from the boat. - I tend to remove the chart cartridge when we are not on board as I had one taken on a previous boat, which is annoying at Navionics replacement prices.
