I'm not sure I'm with you on a round orange thing.
The sky in the photos is typical for a warm moist air situation with temperatures around or over 25 C. There is a slight pink haze over the horizon due to moisture in the air. I would estimate visibility not more than about 6 miles in the photo.
Sky colour over here changes with the weather. A cold mass situation (northwesterly wind after a cold front passage) usually brings a vivid blue sky and very sharply defined clouds, together with over 12 miles visibility.

;D Perhaps it doesn't show itself as it doesn't want to look at us these days... We do have sun from time to time, but most of this summer has been like autumn. Just like last year, I must add, although then we had a glorious spring which we even didn't get this year.

Not sure teh NW US has had a spring or summer so far. Joke has been, ah, sun is out, summer is here, .......... 5min later, rain is back, summer is gone, fall is here!
Little bit of brightness as I look out the window this morning, yesterday was rain, altho cleared up for a fantastic sunset looking over the Olympic mtns to the west last night. Lawns are still green vs turning brown due to lack of water, no forest fires locally like in Colorado, .......overall I suppose a few gray/rainy days are good!

Hi Ted . Nice pics. Great to get some of your boat sailing. In Suffolk we've had some better days recently temps to 25C[78F] and not quite as windy for a few days allowing me to get into the beautiful Deben and Burnham [ tho' F7 coming back yet blue skies]. Also seen that orange thingy in the sky . Apparently the jet stream slippage and associated poor weather may last a while longer. I have a hol in California in September and hope it is going to be better over there. Anyway here s'a pic[ I hope] of Chanson in the Deben moored near Ramsholt Arms. May have to try again with the picture.
Cheers Ron

Glad you like the photos. Wish we had a view like yours in the Puget Sound. Our 'mountains' are church steeples. ;D The sun has been back yesterday and today although tonight the radar says rain. Sitting on board and the sky is going black in the South. Tomorrow should be OK though a bit windy. I haven't been able to see your picture yet, Ron. Despite the awful weather we have fond memories of last year's sail up the Blackwater and the Crouch. The Deben will have to wait for a while, I'm afraid. No problem with the jet stream in July as we will be off to West Africa to stay with friends in Ghana.

Hi Ted...........Still trying to download some pics. Here's one from 2010 showing Chanson entering the Deben. She is the nearest yacht to the webcam. Got new sailsand other bits since then so she looks a lot smarter now. I'd only had her a few weeks. The Deben is lovely Ted By the way do you lock your prop when sailing? Ron

Thanks, Ron. Nice photos. I see your new mainsheet clipped to the pushpit, and your radar reflector is in the same place as mine. I lock my prop in reverse just like the manual says.
