has anyone out there got any experience with converting a sun fast to the german mainsail rig with the traveler on the rooftop? The sun fast and sun oddessy have the same roof etc only difference is the height of the mast and the length of the boom. will the roof supports take the strain of the larger sails? any other suggestions for getting the traveler out of the cockpit?

Castenb, I would get advice from the spar supplier. The SF has end boom sheeting which gives a greater factor of safety in the boom. If you move the block on the boom to the centre to suit the cabin top traveller the strain on the boom will be considerably higher. I have done the reverse and put a longer boom on a SO37. If I sheeted the new, larger section, boom from the cabin top it would be 10% overloaded so we opted for a combination of centre traveller end end boom sheeting for racing and I revert to just the cabin top traveller when at a mooring and we want to put up all the cockpit awnings without the interference of the mainsheet in the cockpit. From my understanding the cabin top should be the same and have the inserts built in for the traveller. Regards David
