How does one gain access to the rear of the power distribution panel and the back sides of the device-mounting panels on the SO40 (2000 production), at the navigation station?
There are screws that hold the distribution panel in place that one can remove, but there is no obvious way to release the wood panel to which the distribution panel - and the adjacent radar display, as well, are mounted. It does not appear to have the hinged wood panel that is used on the SO34.2.
The low side panel that lies between the power distribution cabinet and the stowage cabinet on the port side, above the nav station seats, has no obvious means of removal, either. The VHF radio and SeaTalk repeater are mounted on that panel. Access cannot be gained from the domestic water system distribution panel below.
Has anyone gotten into these areas successfully?

Once you remove the instrument panel there are 4 screws on the inside that you need to undo so you can remove the wooden panel.
I did not do it myself but was watching it get removed. It did seem to require a bit of working blind.
