Hello everyone,
I've just put my SO37 in the water for the first time. I've noticed (when removing the floor in the bilge area) that the 2 stern most compartments are not draining into the bilge compartment. Does anyone else have this problem? It is almost as if they forgot to drill a drainage hole between compartments.
Thanks, David

There are a LOT of places in my 43DS that do not have limber holes to drain to the bilge. I think that Jeanneau looks at these places in the bilge, and if there is no source of water there, they don't install limber holes. Other manufacturers do the same. Sometimes, like under heads, they install a stringer that doesn't drain till the boat heals a bit or pitches. So you have to go look for some "interesting" sailing to get the bilge dry.
I resist the urge to drill holes, though - I am getting old and my sense of direction is not quite what it was...

Mine has a drain tube which goes under the engine mount/drip tray moulding. It would seem to be a serious omission as you will get drips from the stern gland in that area.

We had similar issues with our former SO34.2 - water, usually condensation or trivial leaks from the prop shaft, would gather in the "tray" just foward of the companionway steps while underway, as the boat tended to lean back, especially when motoring. The change in fore-aft balance when in the slip wasn't always enough to move the water into the bilge sump. This was worse during winter lay-up, when the boatyard would intentionally block the cradle to tilt the boat slightly astern.
It's a bit early in our ownership tenure to judge, but our SO40 may well have similar behavior.
The best solution is periodic inspection and application of sponge technology!

David, I had a look under my floor boards on Wednesday and found water not draining to the sump. Now this a new issue as I had moved some gear from the forward cabin to the aft cabin. My SO37 has two drain holes trough the frames and one of these is almost completely filled with the drain tube from the stern section while the other is completely free. With the new trim the compartment behind the sump is the natural low section. At present I have nothing forward of the mast and the anchors and rodes are in the stern locker and the fuel tank is full. We use the yacht a lot and with the pitching the water probably usually drains away but this time I looked before racing. If you are not racing an anchor and rode in the anchor locker and keeping the front water tank full might be enough to fix the trim. Regards David
