Hi
We are looking at at purchasing a Jeanneau 379 and as part of that Im trying to understand how best to spec the NSS8 chartplotter. I tend to think that its best positioned in the cockpit, however is there any way to interface it with PC software so that I could upload routes/waypoints and download tracks etc from the comfort of the cabin.

I mounted the E120 Chartplotter in the cockpit and use Raymarine's RayTech with a laptop at the nav station. It's a lot easier to plot courses on the laptop. RM won't work with MAC, but you can use Parallels on your MAC to use Windows files.

Hi Simrad NSS8 reads .gpx files. So if your PC software can export waypoints and routes as .gpx files it will work fine. However NSS8 will not work on-line with the computer. You have to save your routes and waypoints to a gpx file and then use a USB memory stick to upload to the NSS8 See ǸSS user manual www.simrad-yachting.com/Products/Navigation-Fishfinding/NSS/DOWNLOADS/Page 88 I use NSE8 an I am very happy with the interface. I use PC software "Polarview" which I use to make routes, look at tracks etc. www.polarnavy.com
