Hi All,
I need to replace the cutlass bearing on my SO36i: I intend to use a standard Jeanneau replacement which I understand is a "soft" rubber part.
Does the shaft have to be removed to do the work?
I would appreciate any inputs or comments from anyone who has done the replacement.
Thanks in advance Noel

This has been covered in previous threads on cutlass bearing replacement. The cutlass bearing on my new SO36i is a rubber unit held in place with two nylon grub screws. On my old SO 29.2 I replaced the cutlass bearing (it appears identical to the bearing on the 36i). Process was to remove the prop, needed a prop puller to get it off, then undid the two grub screws and then using the rubber flange on the cutlass bearing I was able to wriggle it out of the P-bracket and slide it off the shaft. The new one slid in easily, grub screws replaced. In all about half an hours work - a very pleasant surprise as I was imagining all sorts of problems. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
