after 5 years, my trojan house bank (3 group 31 batteries, Trojan 105Amp) have died. I will replace with 4 Lifeline AGM group 31XT (125amphours). Will the original Cristec battery charger be compatible with the AGM batteries and the increased amperage (400Amps)? Thoughts?

Unless your charger has specific AGM settings, it will not work properly

The Cristec charger on my 2009 42DS only has settings for Calcium/Lead, Sealed Lead, Gel, Flooded Lead. I imagine that you will have the same charger fitted (CPS OEM 12V/40A). The following article indicated that: a) Lifeline AGMs were suitable for deep cycle and many other makes were not b) Many chargers were not programmed properly for AGM (even if they claimed to be) c) Charger settings couldn't be relied upon without being checked d) They still need a regular eq. charge Probably worth reading all the articles on the page below: www.morganscloud.com/category/electrical/el-indepth-agm-battery-test/It tended to put me off buying AGMs as cheap flooded batteries seemed better value. Costs they quote show AGM to be better but I can't see how they come to that conclusion (based on prices I can see in UK). The 40A charging limit might not be a big problem as you tend to be on shore power for 24 hours at a time. So no need to pump in 100s Amps in an hour. Money might be better spent on a big alternator (but that gets to be expensive with belts, pulleys etc.) P.S. As far as I can see, setting Cristec to Type-2 Bat (Sealed lead) gives 14.3V / 13.6V and article suggests 14.4V / 13.5V. But you'd need to check the actual voltages and currents. The output Voltages can be adjusted on the Cristec. I don't know how you'd get the eq. charge from a Cristec. Selecting boost for Type-1 Bat would give 15.1V but the current would probably be far too high with AGMs. Perhaps you could buy something fairly cheap to supply 15.5V at current of 1% of max. capacity.
