Our new SO 36i has arrived, after five weeks on ship from France. We spent many an hour watching the ships progress on Marine Traffic. It came well wrapped up in plastic! More photos to follow.

Next day with the keel on and sanding of the hull nearly complete. As always it commenced to rain when sanding was complete and every thing was lined up to put on the antifoul.

Mast head, VHF cable has been terminated. A G3 antenna will be located on masthead as well. The tungsten filament anchor light shown here was replaced with a LED assembly. rc: Geelong is the second largest city in Victoria, Australia and is situated on Port Phillip Bay.

Gecko I hope to sail up your way one day! Sails fitted, full tanks of water and anchor fitted. Anchor (Rocna 15) plus 40 m chain and 100 m rope and full forward water tank has made her bow heavy. We had a fantastic sail from the commissioning/delivery yard to our home port (35 nm) with 10-15 knot winds and sprung sheets. Fitting of electronics is now just about complete. More details to follow.

I am thinking about either the rocna 33 or 40 for our new jeanneau. I would love to see how the rocna looks in your new boats bow roller.
You must be getting very excited waiting for the big day.
Congratulations

Wow, that's quite a dip in the bow - are you planning on doing anything to compensate?
I've been wondering if we should run both water tanks at the same time to avoid having one full and one empty.

Congrats on your new vessel. A small generator in the stern would balance things out....expensive last resort.

Hi all, Many thanks for the comments. I have reduced the amount of water in the bow tank. It is now at about 1/4 full according to the gauge and the water line is about right. I am thinking about keeping the front tank empty except on long trips.
Electronics all fitted with few hassles. Our main problem is getting the AIS transceiver to output position data to the VHF radio.
Great Lakes Sailor, I will get photos of the Rocna on the bow roller soon. It fits very well.

Congratulations on the new boat, I have a 2009 model, still well pleased with her, one piece of advice is, keep the ball joint on the heads outlet frequently open and closed otherwise, like mine it will seize up. Fortunately for me, in the open position. Will be changed in the next two weeks, but not an easy job. Good Sailing.

Great lakes sailor: Photos of the Rocna 15 (15 kg) on the bow roller. This is a double hinged roller. It fits very well and in the one launch and retrieval was very easy with good hull clearance. Water was smooth though.

Congratulations sitara, and thanks everyone else for the advice. We are a few weeks behind you here in the UK, and our SO36I is about to be anti-fouled. It (to Archipel spec) only has a port coachroof winch. It looks like yours has winches on both sides. We plan to upgrade to a mainsheet track at some point in the future, and want to have fit a spare halyard (nominally spinnaker but mostly intended an MOB recovery aid). 1) What lines will you have coming to which side of the coachroof? 2) Did you (a)specify the starboard winch when you ordered, (b)get the yard to add it or, (c)was it standard (i.e. not Archipel spec)?

Hi Pmulcahy, exciting times! congrats on a new SO36i. Ours is also to Archipel specifications. I was not expecting the starboard coach house roof winch and had planned to fit one later but it came already fitted (no complaints there). The boat also had the deck pads fitted for the spinnaker blocks etc. Our local agent in Victoria (and boat yard) has been very helpful in setting the boat up and has added a few bits and pieces that were above the Archipel spec.
The arrangement of lines at the rope jammers is more or less factory standard. My French failed me when trying to decipher and additional rope diagram (a yellow sheet - I think it came with all the ropes in the cockpit locker from the factory). I have main halyard and genoa halyard to two large rope clutches on the port side, then two reefing lines and the genoa furler line to the three smaller rope clutches on the same side. The spinnaker halyard, main sheet, boom vang, main outhaul are all on the starboard side. This leaves one spare rope clutch at present but will have to fit a spinnaker pole down haul and topping lift later.
The boat is a delight sail and I am very impressed with the standard of finish. The only real delivery fault is a missing control box for the rear water tank gauge.

The helmpod selection for the SO36i was a long and tedious process. I had purchased the Raymarine e7 plotter along with an i70 instrument display and the p70 autopilot control unit and had no end of trouble finding a pod to mount them in. The standard pods were either too big or too tall. Navpod came to the rescue with the release of a pod designed for the e7 and two instruments (model GP164). I ordered one from West Marine (USA) and it arrived about three weeks later. It fitted perfectly, just removed the standard three instrument pod that came with the boat and bolted the new one straight on.

Elessar returning home after the first excursion! Ten to 15 knots wind on the beam and flat water gave us a very quick run.

Hi Just wondering if the fuel tank was also full when the photo was taken with the bow low. I have never noticed this on Gecko we have 55m of chain and no rope in the anchor locker as rope is not advisable in the Whitsundays. Our boat has a few extra items like BBQ and bimini dodger and also the kedge anchor short chain and rope in rear locker maybe this is balancing it. Please let us know when you do your trip to the Whitsundays one day as we may catch up. Currently I work ovrseas and only get to use our boat twice a year. Gecko is on bareboat hire. One thing I noticed is your anchor and bow would pay to have a SS plate fitted over the bow ours was fitted with one and there has been times when it was chartered that they have hit the anchor on the bow so there is some small bash marks on the plate. One other thing keep an eye on your teak as ours was lifting after 2 years and all had to be replaced down south cooler weather you maybe ok. Cheers Gecko.

Hi Gekco, Fuel tank was a bit over 3/4 full according to the gauge. It was showing about 1/4 full and I added another 60 L to bring it up to 3/4 full so I assume the gauge is reasonably accurate. There was no extra weight in the rear of the boat but no doubt junk will start to accumulate. We will be adding bimini and dodger later.
Thanks for your comments re the anchor bow protection, lifting the anchor in any sort of swell would be likely to damage the hull. The delivery shipyard supplied us with some teak sealer so hopefully that will protect the teak but will keep an eye out for lifting edges.
Cheers Sitara

Hi Sitara,
Congratulations on your new 36i. I am the proud owner of a 36i delivered at the end of 2010. I will be happy to share some of the mods I have done: 1) Rodkicker (Selden) 2) Amp meter on the electrical panel (search on the forum, it works a treat) 3) New starting battery and replaced house batteries with AGM in the same spot (ie no wood work!) 4) Replaced all non LEDs with LEDs (nav lights as well as down below). Although it looks like your nav lights might already be LEDs. 5) Deck light. It is already wired, just need to fit the light. 6) Fusion stereo system with DVD player and remote control in the cockpit. (Existing Pioneer system was pretty poor) 7) TV on the bulkhead
Let me know if you want any details and I will oblige.
I like your navpod. My chart plotter is down below but I am considering moving it to the cockpit and looking for a suitable pod (and the time to do it all...).
Cheers...
