Hi, just bought new VHF radio to my boat. All tips and hints for installation are very much appriciated I will anyway do the site survey before doing anything, but is if someone has done this, comments are wellcome. I will install antenna to the mast, mast is 13,55. Would RG-58 cable be enough or should I use RG-213? Is there some cabling existing inside boat? Exact lenght of the cable? Radio will be installed close to main switch board, chart plotter is out in pedestal. Is there logical way to get NMEA cabling from there of radio? More questions when installation is ongoing.. br, Lasse

Hi Lasse
RG 213 has a lower line loss than RG 58, but it is a larger diameter cable. Can make it harder to install down the mast and around the boat. The way I looked at it is the loss from the cable isn't all that great. VHF radios are line of sight and with 25 watts, you will find that even with the little extra line loss, you will have about the same distance.
