Hello new registrant on this forum. vessel 42ds 2007 located vancouver island, western canada. owner for 1 1/2 years. Starting to attempt modifications to create more practicality, i.e plotter mount to be more visible with swivel ability. also considering installing the third water tank which has the extra valve at pump. has anyone installed this if so would love to hear how and where, I assume up in the forecastle forward of existing tank!! Would also be very interested in hearing of other mods that owners have done.

I put a 90 L plastimo tank under the floorboards amidships.Has worked well and cheaper than a £5000 watermaker and easy to connect to the spare valve.I did not plumb the filer to the deck, just fil it from a hose when needed.

Thanks to tafika II and divamaria, tafika your mods are impressive and certainly numerous. I have locked up the rocker on the anchor assembly which has given an extra 4" of clearance The head thru hull valves are a pain, who would think a steel handle on a brass shaft would create wear, one wonders about the designers!! may change mine at this spring haulout I am also getting problems with tank drains getting clogged, Considering banning toilet paper even though we use degradable. have been contemplating the anchor well mod. and certainly been considering the davit system, Kato ship for boat spec. divamaria like you we have numerous options for water in this sailing region so may go with the bladder install but into the forward compartment could use a bypass for filling from the forward tank line. If a dream of long range were to come to fruition then water maker would be the necessity. Will contemplate all mods. and keep you both as referral "experts" thanks again.

I'm about to fit a 104 litre tank on my 2009 42DS. I worked out the max. size I could fit into the locker under floor behind the table. Fortunately CAK tanks in UK sell one that very close to the size I need.
I intend to run a 40mm inlet pipe to a Y in the filler for the front tank. Once the front tank fills the 3rd tank should fill.
I'm going to run a vent pipe alongside the inlet and connect with a T to the front tank vent. It goes to port side of anchor locker.
The outlet will just connect to the spare on the manifold. I'll probably not bother with a level sensor and just use the 3rd tank before starting on existing ones.
I'll try to post details here once work is completed but that won't be for another 8-10 weeks.
I made up a dummy tank from some spare plastic I had lying around. So can confirm that something 1016x445x241mm will fit the space.

mistroma,
have you installed that 3rd water tank yet? I'm curious to how you made out.

For you with multiple tanks installed... in my SO37.1 from 1995, the valves sits a bit awkward under a sofa (and I'm not very particular found of the puzzle type of holding the hatch on place, takes too much time and focus to open/close correctly, and still they are quite loose. What's wrong with hinges? ) so I made a nice remote control unit for the tank valves The valves and connection box under sofa: The control panel at navdesk (mounted currently in the hole for the old FM radio which is not used): It is a simple analog switch (the actisense unit in background is for other stuff), and the green pushbutton connects both +12V and GND when activated (which is only during tank shifting) so there should not be any worries about current leakage (and hopefully not water either ) The motorized valves was bought at open source control system www.oscsys.com/store/product/294, way cheaper than the marine variants from Vetus for example. If it can be used for beers it can be used for water is my belief ;D It's a small step for mankind but a big step for lazy captains... ;D
