I am considering buying a Jeanneau Sun 2000 having just seen one at the boat show. I intend to leave the boat on a drying mooring in the Thames Estuary (Essex side, fairly hard mud with some stones but with some give). Anyone with experience of leaving one on a drying mooring during the summer and taking her out in the winter would be good to hear from. I am particularly concerned with any difficulties this might cause to the lifting keel mechanism as a posting on another board has left me somewhat concerned with replies such as " you run the risk of seizing up the keel mechanism when mud gets up into the keel slot (it's very wide underneath which would give plenty of opportunity for mud to get squished up the slot as you swing onto ground..) The boat is really designed for sailing up onto sand beaches (provided you get the newer lifting rudder, the older dagger blade rudder would have torn out from the stern, you have to lift it vertically) ." Thanks in advance

Hi Swampy, As a Sun 2000 owner I read quite a few threads on the boat. I did find a thread with reports of problems with the swing keel seizing when stuck in a mud berth. The thread owner solved this problem by rigging a tarp that he could rig tight against the hull so when the boat settled, the mud and rocks did not squeeze up into the compartment and bind the keel. By the way, here is a great link to a new and relatively unknown S2000 blog in France. sun2k.free.fr/wordpress/I read only English so need to use online translation software to understand. I have the new swing up rudder an think it is a great improvement over the "putting rudder." Let me know if you have any other questions on the S2K "Baby Jen" John

John Thanks for the info. The blog has given some other stuff to look at. I think the tarp idea may work, I hadn't considered that. Could you explain the difference between your rudder and the old one please? Thanks in advance.

My rudder has a swing up system. The old rudder is a "putting" rudder. In other words, the rudder is "put" into a slot and is pull up and out to raise and pushed doen and in to lower. The rudder housing is prone to breakage. The swing rudder is a nice improvement.

Hi,
Thank you very much John for the promotion of the blog... But it seems that I should think about making an english version... It won't be easy and I have to improve my English...
Swampy, don't hesitate to post comments on the blog even in English. That's not a problem. Maybe someone will reply you.
Have a nice day! sun2k.free.fr

An old thread now but does anyone know where I can buy the lifting rudder swampy mentioned? I'd like one for by 2003 SUN 2000.

Shame that the French Sun2k forum seems to be off line, they had some good info Don't know where you are based but it might be well worth speaking to Sea Ventures at Hamble Point - even if they can't now an original one they currently are selling a Sun 2000 with the lift rudder so you could at least take dimensions etc and get one fabricated www.sea-ventures.co.uk/boats-for-sale/used/sail/jeanneau/sun-2000/4519813
