Vixen is at Chatham and we've taken up ownership! It's lovely (to live in) - we will not be able to sail her till the weekend - short days and heavy workload! Will post some piccies later... Martin and Toni

Congratulations and happy sailing. If the weather is OK, Stangate Creek is a good anchorage. But probably you know already!

Congratulations and happy sailing. If the weather is OK, Stangate Creek is a good anchorage. But probably you know already! Indeed! And now that we have an electric windlass, we will anchor there! On our old boat we really needed a very good reason to drop the hook since it was such a pain to pull it up by hand! Mind you, stangate Can get a bit shallow. Our previous boat was a bilge Keeler and would float in a teacup-we're going to have to be a lot more careful with tide calculations now!

Congrats with Vixen!!! Weather here in Essex this morning was PANTS!!! Although this afternoon brightened up. We will be in Chatham on the spring so will look you up. We are based in Bradwell. Hope your weekend is going well Ian and Sarah We've had a fantastic weekend! Rain was torrential Friday early, but cleared just in time for the handover to start. The jeaneau dealer gave us a detailed introduction to all the boat systems, then took us out on a couple of hours sailing. Wind was 20 to 25 knots and she can really shift! With two reefs in she was doing 7.5 knots with ease and handling beautifully. Saturday, we went out with a friend, who is a very experienced Jeanneau sailor, crewing. Wind was very variable, ranging from 8 knots up to about 18 knots and we sailed with no reefs in all the time. Again, beautifully balanced and we were managing between 5 and 6 knots on a beam reach in 10 knots of wind... Back in the marina, she's a pleasure to be on - clean, confortable lines and easy maintenance. Everyone wants to see her and we've had guests most nights. The Webasto heating brings the temparature up in a few minutes and we've stayed comfortably warm for five days without the fuel guage dropping noticeably. My next hurdle is learning to park her backwards. Our previous boat didn't have a walk through transom, so I never learned that bit. I made a couple of approach runs, but bottled out at the last minute. Eventually turned round and went in forwards :-(

Do persevere with the stern to mooring - I am sure it is actually much easier than going in ahead as you can judge distances from the finger pontoon better etc We had a berth for a year in Chatham a couple of seasons ago and really enjoyed the creeks, Swale lift bridge and the ease of getting up to London plus of course the really brilliant Fish and Chips....

Mmm, we're very fond of Chatham too... Good facilities and friendly staff. Good social life too... We're not going to be exploring so many creeks with this boat - 1.9m draft - but she does point well and goes like stink!

It seems the 1.9m draught is better for the 33's pointing ability than the 1.5 I have on the 32. But no worry, I'm going to fit a mainsheet rail this winter and improve close-hauled handling.
Parking backwards should be very easy provided you have a fixed point like a mooring post one side of your berth. I forgot about the arrangement at Chatham, but if you can put a line from the stern cleat on a fixed point, take it back aboard and belay, you can turn her in line slowly, going in reverse and using the line as a spring. As soon as you are pointing in the right direction you slip the line and slowly let her go into the berth. I do so all the time even with a crosswind. Use a big fender to keep the stern from scratching though.

A new yacht has to be better than a new car smell ;D Looks like the 33i has ticked all the right box's for you. My 2cents on the reversing in, which is how we do it as well, don't do it the same way you would with a car as in turn out near the berth and reverse the last little bit. I start my reversing "early" not sure how that can fit in your case, I reverse past some 20 yacht's, but in full control and then swing in. Have fun with your new baby.
Cheers
