Best bet is talk to sailmaker so the chute fits how you want to use it. Size wise, typically they are about 180% of the fortriangle in size. You can go down some if you want an easier sail to use in higher winds. If you are in lighter winds, go for a bigger one.....flat if windy, full for down wind and lighter air..........They can be fun to use. My current one is about 90% of the 180% size, works well with two on board to get a bit more speed down wind than a 155 genoa. On the other hand, when racing a bit small with some gorillas on deck. So a bigger one is hoed to be bought sooner than later, but probably later than sooner.......

Ian, The original SO37 brochure shows a spinnaker of 85m2. That is the size suited to the standard spinnaker pole length equal to the J measurement. If you are considering racing a pole of 115% of J might be considered and a larger spinnaker. Spinnaker handling is an issue to be considered. For a conventional spinnaker a sock is the only aid to handling I know. These socks are used on the super yachts so they must work ok. For a bowsprit mounted asymmetric spinnaker roller furling is an option if you have the $$'s. Asymmetrics are larger than pole mounted spinnakers but not so good square downwind. As Marty says talk to your sail maker and see if you can get a ride on yachts with the different options before you commit. Regards David
