The alarm on the Yanmar 3gm30 engine control panel has recently turned very squeaky - and then today completely failed. Anyone got any ideas? The engine hasnt done a huge amount of work, 650 hours at present. Thanks in advance. Peter

Peter,
Same comment as for the engine fan. Check all the contacts in the circuit including taking all the fuses out and making sure there is not corrosion on the blades.
Regards
David

David - excuse my ignorance but is the actual alarm behind the control panel? I presume it is but have left the boat now so I cant investigate. Regards Peter

Peter,
A bit of follow up. My engine alarm has been slow to sound so I followed up on the points in the link above. Sure enough the alarm only comes on if the oil pressure light is also showing. If your is like mine there is a quick fit connection near the engine oil pressure sensor and that had a bit of corrosion around it. Just cleaning it up brought the oil light and alarm sound back on.

Finally returned to the boat - and needless to say my Oil Light does come on when the key is turned, so I will get a new buzzer from one of the sources listed on the thread you emailed me. Many thanks for all the help

Ah - the joys of boat ownership! The buzzer on my SO36i is soldered to the rear of the PCB, and I think removing it could damage the PCB and lots of money to Yanmar...... So next question - the wiring loom feeding the PCB has the following coloured wires:- blue with black - goes into T1 on the board yellow with green - T2 on board white with blue - T3 on board yellow - T4 T5 is empty red/black - T6 Anyone got any ideas which two I need to tap into to feed a new maplins buzzer? Many thanks in advance.

At last I can give something back to the forum! Normally I am brain picking....
I have now sorted the alarm out - bought a buzzer from Maplins for about a pound.
If anyone else has this problem - then RED goes to T6 and BLACK into T1 - and this seems to work just fine.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

The engine alarm/buzzer on my 11 month old SO36i has been intermittent for some months. On the last trip it failed to come on when the switch was moved to on, and would give a few squeaks as the engine started. Usually it worked OK for the rest of the day.
So then I found this thread and checked the oil pressure warning light and sure enough it did not come on if the buzzer did not sound. The connection from the wiring loom to the oil pressure switch was loose, and a quick squeeze with pliers solved the problem. The connector is pretty poor quality so I will be watching out for something more robust.

I had similar problems with the oil alarm, and traced it to a bad crimp connector at the sensor on the engine.
