I do have to blow my own trumpet....should that be French horn. We raced the French Yacht Challenge last saturday and as last year we won.....just. Some 20 Beneteau's, 5 Jeanneaus', 1 Dufour, 1 something, can't remember. It's raced using PHRF as the fleet is from 30 feet to 50 feet. Once again nice light wind 8-10knots for the first 3/4 of the race, then a 100 degree shift and 25+knots, that tested the fleet a bit, we ended up with 2 reef's and rolled the headsail up a bit, have to say the new GPL headsail was great, it would have been a fight with the older dacron. We were very surprised and pleased when we heard the result, not sure the Beneteau camp was. Cheers Attachments:

Congratulations on back to back French Yacht Challenge wins. We certainly saw a lot more than 25 knots and were glad we had a large reef in our Hyde main. 2nd time up for the main & first for the assy. Four boats over the line before us had composite lead keels & carbon masts. Again, the Beneteau camp not happy, but 1.16 handicap makes them feel better. Cheers

Hi axiom, that 409 of yours did very well, and is a good looking yacht, I did notice the GPL main at the start line we were sitting on your starboard side. 1st one to say we had the weather on our side again for the first 3/4 and we must have made enough ground for the last troublesome 1/4. 2010, 2011 trophies sitting side by side does look good. ;D ;D See you tonight for the opening with Rick.
Cheers

A great result for flightdeck to win two years in a row. If we don't sell the boat we will have to get a code zero too, or you will start finishing races in front of us. We also saw some big numbers on the wind speed. One gust that put us on our ear showed as 34knts true. A bit much for one reef and a number three. Heading off to do the Fairway challenge tonight so I hope we have a good result to tell next week. Axiom how do you find the 409

Flightdeck, Congratulations on the result. Probably a tall order but would it be possible to get the handicaps of each design including noting any extras used for that handicap. That way we can see what the handicapper thinks is the relative performance. Are the race results posted anywhere? Regards David

Hi David, I can't find anything with a link to the Hcp's only final results, which are on www.rqys.com.au in their result section. I'll see if I kept the Hcp sheet and scan it in. Then the 409 can show how well it did in a first outing on track time, was slogged on Hcp. 1st to 3rd were 30-32 footers so that says something about the light weather. Bad Habit's hope you did well and manage to stay clear of the storm friday night / saturday morning. Cheers

Well, we were motoring to the start at Recliffe when the storm struck . Ee were just past the St Helena jetty. Saw winds up to 60 knots in the gusts and the toerail was underwater even though we had no sails up. Race was very light and very shifty and against the tide. Floating backwards away from marks is not fun. Gave up at 3.30am when it became obvious we could not finish in the time limit. Mondo, a sydney 38 was the last boat to finish inside the time limit of 7.00 am. Saw lots of whales up really close.

Thanks guy that will give me something to think about. We have seven of those models racing at Greenwich Flying Squadron plus a First 38 and a Jeanneau Sunshine 38.
