Here are some ideas. I would think the 42 DS rear is the same as the 40 DS. [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] I use the davits also to put some solarpanels on. You can notice (pic 2) that under the main (top) solarpanel an other can be slided in or out , thus increasing my yield. On the righthand side (pic 3) of the davits table there used to be an orbiscan auto satellite dish which unfortunatly broke down , but will be repared or replaced. All you can see now is the gps receivers and a DVB antenna. I tried to combine different worlds with these davits , and of course I can also hang up my dinghy. Maybe that will help you a bit further. I think the biggest question here is how you intend to use the boat. If you are going to go cruising, and intend to outfit the boat with the solar panels and windmills and various eletronics with their antennas, then an arch that can be used as davits makes a lot of sense. It can include all sorts of attachment points for various equipment, and gets is all done in one package that is structurally sound, instead of adding stuff on to a structure designed to just hold a dinghy. It is also expensive.
On the other hand, if you are just doing coastal/local cruising, then the dinghy holders that fold the dinghy up across the stern might be a good, inexpensive, useful solution. Dinghys in davits on sailboats need to be supported better than on power boats because sailboats heel quite a bit more, and the overall motion is harder on the davits. So, simple davits need to be much more robust.
I have an arch, but if I was just doing coastal sailing, I would just fold it up on the swim platform.
Of course, for off-shore work, you also need to be able to stow the dinghy on-deck, or folded up and in a locker.
