I have a 2010 42 ds. it has the quick Aleph AL1012 vertical windlass. I have 70' of 3/8 chain and 200' of 5/8" 3 strand nylon rode. I am having trouble with the nylon rode. the windlass will not pull the rode in unless it is under load. It will not pull the rode out either. I have to pull it through the windlass. the quick rep said the chain and rode size are correct for the drum. the chain works fine. has anyone had this problem and found a solution? While I am at it, the nylon rode gets jammed in the bow roller. I have a feeling it is suited for chain. Read more: jeanneau.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=eq&action=display&thread=1247#ixzz1SnNR6Um6

Johnyboy, I have a 2007 36i, with a quick verticle windlass. The first year I had 20 feet of chain a 200 feet of rope, The windlass would pull the rope, but the rope would not fall into the anchor well, it was too stiff and didn't weigh enough. I replaced the rope with all chain. Now it works great. With the chain you also have an advantage in the fact that you ussually don't need as much scope to give you good holding power.
