In another thread has inspired me to create a genric holding tank thread. Whilst the size will vary greatly between boats, many other aspects of fitting a holding tank will be similar regardless of the boat you have, so maybe having a single thread for reference will be handy. So I will start with a .... I am wanting to fit a holding tank on my SO40, but unfortunatly my boat is in Greece and I am in Sweden so I can't just pop down to the boat with a tape measure. So is there anyone who has already fitted a holding tank and has either point to a tank from a catalog that they fitted or have dimensions of their tank? I have sent www.tek-tanks.com/ an email in the hope they have supplied tanks for SO40's and can recommend a tank. The marina office does have my key, so I can get them to measure for me, but I would prefer to have a specific tank in mind and send them the measurements just to confirm that it will fit my boat. ;D

We replaced both of our stainless holding tanks with plastic ones recently (the stainless had corroded and Charterer's seem to like everything all shiny and new). Sadly, I don't have the dimensions to hand, but will ask the folk that manage the boat for these and will post in due course. FWIW, they were both a very basic rectangle. The replacements are thick black plastic jobs (possibly GRP, but can't remember too well). Replaced all the pipes, thru hulls, seacocks, seals, pumps, and even the seats as well (the Jabsco bowls held up well however), not to mention the sinks, shower heads, taps, and so on and on and on..... Pic's of the old ones to give a sense of size, are attached here; Aft Head i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff394/Paul_Truscott/Onyx016.jpgFwd Head i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff394/Paul_Truscott/Onyx005.jpgLike yourself, we're a long way from the boat so have to rely on other for the details. That's not a pretty site. I don't blame you for replacing them.
You wouldn't happen to know the capacity of them? If I understand it correctly the aft is not much more than 40 litres/10 gallons. The forward is obviously smaller but I don't have a clue by much.

BTW thanks for the photos. I don't have any inside the aft locker so I could not picture what it was like in there. I assume the fore is in the locker above the toilet. Mine is lined so I've never seen how much potential room there is. www.pbase.com/el_hoppy/image/129252696.jpg

Yes, the forward holding tank is in the space/locker behind the head itself.
I'm still waiting on Mark to get back to me, but I think the forward one is not very large as it fills up pretty quick.
Will post more info as soon as I can.
Cheers, PT.

Thanks very much, that is very helpful.
I will try to find a tank for the aft with similar measurements and then send the details of the tank to the marina workshop and get them to confirm it is possible to fit.
