The throttle cable of my 10 year old Jeanneau 43 DS broke inside the throttle and shifting housing in the cockpit. How difficult is it to purchase and replace this cable? I am on a trip and not at my home port. Is it possible to disconnect the throttle cable from the engine and adjust the speed at the engine directly on the engine in order to get home where a permanent repair can be made?

The Teleflex cable can be removed and you can manually control the engine from below, but getting the engine into and out of forward gear is a bit tougher due to the missing leverage. Access to the cable run is pretty limited in the 43DS, the project isn't technically difficult but will take some time and effort.

Thanks Zanshin. Fortunately the shifting cable is OK. It's just the throttle cable that broke. Is it possible to use the broken cable to fish through the new cable? Is the cable a set length and how long is it?

We have a SO 37 and just broke the throttle cable on ours also. You will need to replace the whole cable which is not all that expensive, $58.00 Cdn in our case but the labour can be an issue if you can't do it yourself. The length of the cable isn't an issue so long as it is as long as the old one. There are a lot of cable ties holding the cable in place though, so take your time and don't force anything.
