I recently purchased a new Jeanneau 45DS. After about 20 hours on the engine I am experiencing some problems with the transmission. The last two times out the transmission has occasionally lost its thrust while in gear. The engine has been operating at about 2800+/- rpm when this happens. I don't know if it an actual clutch/transmission slip problem or a linkage/cable problem.
When it does slip I put the engine back in neutral and reengage the transmission in gear and it does catch again. I am bringing this to the attention of the dealer because clearly it is a warranty issue. In the interim, it would be helpful to know if others have experienced this problem and what has been the diagnosis and solution.

There seems to be substantial discussion on this topic within other sailing forums. Others with this problem have indicated that it is a cone clutch problem with the Yanmar saildrives. Has anyone experienced this problem with their Jeanneaus?

I had a problem with the cone clutch on my 42ds. It would be fine until it warmed up then slip. Reverse stayed operational so I would have to then go astern to get her back into her berth. I had the gearbox out and the clutch was skimmed and all fine since then.

Yanmar and Jeanneau have agreed that the cone clutch problem will be covered by the warranty. They are saying that the boat needs to be pulled out of the water for the repair. Hopefully it can be done during the week so as to not interfere with weekend sailing. In the interim I can continue to use the boat provided that I don't push the engine too hard.
