Hi we have recently purchased a 2004 SO37 and are delighted with the boat......except for one problem. The sinks in the galley seem to have an air-lock and take an age to empty. Has anyone solved this problem? Peter (Howth YC)

Thanks for that link Malcolm. The problem is that there is an airlock in the line. There is no blockage as we proved with the sink full and stopper in we closed the outlet valve and then removed the stopper. Gradually the airlock bubbled up into the sink. After about 10 secs we opened the outlet valve and the water shot out of the sink. We'll have to either connect the 2 sinks together as suggested at the risk of water flowing into the empty sink for a moment or alternatively we might attempt to add a small 15cm long breather pipe to each outlet pipe at the sink connection and as long as this is located above the water level in the sink we should be ok. I'll revert with results in due course. Maybe Jeanneau should have sorted this pretty fundamental plumbing problem by now. Anyway Malcolm thanks again. Peter

Peter, We love our SO37 too and have the same issue. I know this suggestion is primitive but I just cup my hand like a plunger over the sink hole and give it a quick push and away the water goes. Regards

Toby, Nice to see someone searches the old links for advice. That last comment just had its first birthday. Regards David

Hey David, like on many other forums I just spent some time browsing stuff, so i came across this one and the issue looked so familiar. I've tried pumping both sinks, and it helped with the sink on the left side, but the right one is still draining slow. The way the drain hose is run makes it just slow. It crosses the cutlery drawer with a slight inclination away from the sink connection, so there's something like a siphon created by this. This sounds like a project for another week. Gotta polish and wax the boat this time. cheers :-)

Peteymac is on the right track. Household plumbing drains are vented to prevent the same problem. you need to let air in to the common drain hose to break the suction. Having poor slope doesn't help though.

I can live with the sink drains (I cup my hands and pump too!) what annoys me more is the on my knees head pressed against the door contortion I have to use to to close the sink valve! ...and I'm not getting any younger!

Hi SO 37 (and other Jeanneau) owners with problem sinks. We have finally gotten around to sorting the slow-emptying sinks problem. Just above the waterline we cut 3cm out of the two outlet pipes from the sinks and inserted a T-junction in each. We then used a 15cm pipe to link the two T-junctions and, hey presto, no slow emptying sinks. The water rushes out like there is no tomorrow. Saves using the hand as a plunger in dirty washing-up water as some members suggested. Peter

Peter Are you able to take a picture and post it. I think I understand what you did but would love to see a picture. Garry

SO40 has a similar issue. Through-hulls are below, not above, waterline - this seems to me to be the essence of the issue.
The Admiral's inherent impatience doesn't help this any!
