My SO 29.2 has leaking windows. They were re-sealed by a marine repair company, under warranty 2 years ago. They are leaking again and it looks like teh mastic has not taken to the cabin GRP correctly. I am about to remove the 3 windows and re-stick them.
What is the correct sealant to use and is there a method for cleaning, a chemical I should be using?
The boast is used in south west Ireland - so, coldish atlantic, with plenty of rough seas
Any help would be appreciated

Hi David There is an old thread that may help a little, generally advice seems to be really clean (IE Ultra clean) and degrease - perhaps use acetone, bit take care you don't take gloss off your GRP then use a 3M sealant The Old thread link is hereDo let the board know how you get on - if possible take some photos and post under Hints and tips cheers Malcolm

I will be repairing next week- I will send on photos. This is becoming such a problem for this boat- as it has caused a lot of damage to the finish of the timber and there is a constant fight against black mould. I am strongly thinking of selling the boat following the repairs as this is going to be the third time the windows have been removed and sealed. The windows were sealed under warranty in 2007 and again in 2009 and again 2010 and now in 2011. The sealant used in the past was recommended by the Jeanneau agent. On all of the previous occasions, acetone was also used to clean the old sealant away from the GRP accomodation roof and a sharp scraper used to clean the rest.
This time I will get sealant advice from a marine sealant and resin supplier local to me.
Regards
