I was just informed by the local Raymarine service agent that our 4 month old SO42IP has a factory installation problem with it's Raymarine ST-70 instruments.
He says the instruments were installed at the helm stations without the factory provided weather proofing gaskets. Presumably this means that seawater or rain can infiltrate the instruments through their back covers causing corrosion.
He said that he has seen this on many - possibly all of the late model SO's of any size that he has commissioned in our area.
He's ordered gaskets from Raymarine to install. When they are installed we will have a very thorough look at the instruments to see if we can detect any signs of water ingress. If so I'll be asking the factory to replace them.
It would be worthwhile to have a look at yours to see if the sealing gaskets are installed.
When we remove our instruments to add the gaskets I'll be able to confirm (or refute) his rather alarming statement.
I'll post here what we find.

Pics of the differences, if you do not have the gasket would be good for some too!

Whilst we have the earlier ST60 units I doubt if the internal electronics are at risk as my understanding is the units are sealed, the fixing gasket is still important of course as it protects the terminals where the wiring plugs into the rear of the unit, but not the inner workings

I'll get a picture before and after and post it.
Glad to hear that only the connectors are at risk. If I remember correctly Seatalk NG connectors have an O-ring to seal them from the elements

Interesting.
My families 36i with st60+ instruments definitely has the gaskets installed, it was commissioned on the big island, and when we called the local agent (same as yours) to enquire about getting a new gasket(as we had to remove one instrument) they did not have a clue what we were talking about.
