I have recently bought a sun Odyssey 292 swing keel yacht with twin rudders, the first time that she dried out she fell over at 30 degrees,no damage but an unpleasant experience. she is on a drying pontoon mooring on soft mud over shale. To prevent the same thing happening again i have secures mooring lines to both rear cleats which seems to work. However i am now concerned that if i ever have to beach her, the same thing will happen. Does anyone have the same keel/ rudder configuration and if so how do you take the ground?

On another note: do you find the boat very stable being as she is a lifting keel I am thinking of purchasing a 29.2, but have concerns over stability.

Hi i have only owned this boat for 9 months but have covered about 400 miles in all weathers, she handles like a dream. I was a little apprehensive about a lifting keel as previously i had owned a bilge keeler, no comparison on performance much less heeling now, but reefing more frequently is essential, not a problem though. I raced her this weekend in 20 knots of wind and pulled the keel all the way up on a reach just to see the difference, half expecting a knockdown not at all she made a little more leeway but remained upright a really good test. I would defiantly recommend this boat for ease of handling and lively performance.

Thanks for the information, out of interest where do you sail? I have had other lifting keel boats in th past, but when trying to close haul its impossible.

Hello I have "normal" keel (bulb) SO 29.2 and in strong wind it do need reefing, but after that what I feel normal behavior in wind, she goes well again. Not much experience how other boats works, but some bigger boat (with bigger sails) do need reefing much earlier - I think. I have to go to mast when reefing to hook reef point, but that goes now well. But have been thinking what would it take to modify reef lines so that everything would go by tighten one line only.
Not exactly lift keel replay, but since there was interest of SO 29.2.
