Has anyone had luck getting a replacement key cut in the US? We have our original key and a stainless steel blank from Jeanneau America but can't find anyone to cut it because it's stainless steel.

Same problem. Dealer hasn't been particularly helpful. I am going to try a car dealer.

I bought a ready cut key to fit the hatch on my 23 years old Sun Light 30 from our local Jeanneau distributors Westways of Plymouth last year. I think it came direct from Jeanneau.

Neither the Jeanneau dealer nor Jeanneau America has a ready cut key - just the stainless steel blanks that they sold us. Since it can't be duplicated in the US, has anyone had experience trying to get stainless steel keys cut in France?

hi sue, we just went to one of them key cutting people, had 2 copies made non S/S, keep 1 in the car and 1 at home and the original is the everyday key, you see I don't plan to loose it, but just in case we can still access the boat.
Cheers

Where did you get the non S/S blank? Jeanneau America apparently only has the S/S variety

Sue,
Take the blank to a local locksmith and see if they have an equal in non stainless. A lot of the car dealer have to have a key code to cut the key, as they just plug a key in a hole, a few seconds later it comes out cut. It is possible the locksmith may need to order the blank, in which case, get a couple or three or four!

Marty, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try going to a car dealer - neither the local hardward store nor the local locksmith had a blank to fit our cabin key. Although a trip to France to get a new key cut is tempting.. Sue

We found it impossible to get a replacement key - the key is designed with a "built in barrel". The jeanneau agents in dublin -MGM -were very helpful organised two extra keys for us from Jeanneau

The attached picture is a H.Davenport blank key Ref: UL2 shown on page 32 of following catalogue www.davenport-burgess.com/pdf/part1.pdfThis blank can be used by a competent locksmith to make a Jeanneau copy key, but if I recollect correctly the side edge has to be slightly ground to match the original Jeanneau key width. It fits my 2008 Jeanneau - these are different to earlier keys though, I would guess would suit many post 2005 Jeanneaus It appears that the original key might be an ERA lock Hopefully this will help most local locksmiths find a suitable blank For earlier Jeanneau locks, the following site from our Beneteau cousins may help: www.beneteau235.com/f235_hatch_boards.htmMalcolm

I've had a couple of quotes from Jeanneau for key blanks. They wanted $9 US, and that seemed out of line, especially since I have two good keys already.
None of the hardware stores or locksmiths in my area that I talked to had blanks or had access to them. Online searches in the US didn't turn up anything either. The local Beneteau dealer said they would help, but all I ever get from them is sales literature.
So if there's a source of supply in the US, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Contact Chris von Cossel at Metrolocks WWW.metrolocks.co.ukI was able to take a digital photo of my existing key, e-mail this to him and order online. I'm based in Northern Ireland and keys that arrived work perfectly. My Jeanneau dealer suggested that I order a new lock from Jeanneau in France and price was £160 + VAT + Delivery!!!! Hope this helps. Regards David

$9 US is what we paid for our blank. I wouldn't mind the price except it's a stainless steel blank that no one in the US is able to cut - they say that it would ruin their wheel.

That UL2 blank looks suspiciously like the YK2 blank for my 85 Arcaida. Not quite able to see if it is or not. BUT...........

Hi we had the same problem, I was able to get new keys cut over the counter in a general hardware store in France where the blank seems to be a standard item. Noel

I have tried for two months to get replacement keys in the US, but to no avail and without much help from the dealer. Finally bought a new lock with three keys ($68) through Jeanneay North America. Should have stated there!

I took my keys to a local locksmith. He made 3 for me for about £11. The blank is a little non standard, as he had to go out the back of his shop away from the standard blanks.
If anyone is interested, I have replaced the plastic knob inside the lock with a knurled aluminium one I made.

I am particularly interested in how you (Full Circle) have replaced the plastic knob inside the lock with a knurled aluminium one. How did you go about making it and do you have any photos. It would be far easier and less expensive to replace the part rather than than replace the full latch mechanism and keys. Thanks Owen

Has anyone had luck getting a replacement key cut in the US? We have our original key and a stainless steel blank from Jeanneau America but can't find anyone to cut it because it's stainless steel. Try Gilles Rigaux at Jeanneau America (grigaux@jeanneauamerica.Com, 443-808-2946). He got us brass blanks a couple of years ago. Great customer service. We were able to get copies cut at a local hardware store. Geoff
